Senior Salute - Tom Whiting

The Cobber "Senior Salute" series is a way to honor all the Concordia spring sports athletes who had their senior season come to an abrupt halt. We want to highlight one senior each day to thank them for all their hard work, dedication and Cobber spirit they have show over their careers in maroon and gold.

Cobber Senior Salute - Tom Whiting - Track and Field

What is one of the things you were looking forward to most for this year’s season?
One of the things I was looking forward to most for this year's season was just seeing what we were actually capable of as a team. This really appeared to be a breakout season for everyone involved as we were seeing people succeed all across the board which was quite evident from how we came out in the indoor championships. Personally, I was also having the best season of my career so far for the indoor portion and I was really excited to see how far I could go in the outdoor portion.

What is one of the top things you will miss about being a Cobber athlete?
One of the top things I will miss about being a Cobber athlete would easily be the people that I get to see everyday in practice and who I get to travel with to meets. It was truly a family atmosphere and the relationships I've made through this experience are unlike any other and will last throughout my entire life. Also, the competitive nature of it all was something that would get me excited to go and do better week in and week out and all around sculpted myself as a person.

What is something you are going to miss about Concordia College – away from athletics?
Something I am going to miss about Concordia away from athletics would be the professors that I've had the pleasure of meeting along the way. Being a smaller setting compared to other campuses, I've been able to create closer and stronger relationships with the people who are leading my learning. Getting to know these professors on a greater level and gaining a closer look on their perspective with the material as well as life has given me a chance build those relationships where I otherwise would not have nearly as easily.

What is one of your favorite highlights/memories from your time playing athletics/being with your team?
One of my favorite highlights or memories from track and field would have to be this years MIAC Indoor Championship Meet when our men's team grabbed the second place finish. Everything leading up to the very last event including our 4x200 relay team running that race for our second time and breaking the school record for a second time into Jesse Middendorf's incredible performance in his individual events and finally into the last 60 meters of the 4x400 relay when he inched his way ahead to essentially get us that second place spot.

What is one of your favorite memories from Concordia away from athletics?
One of my favorite memories from Concordia away from athletics would be living in houses and doing whatever it was with some of my best buddies. It is way too hard to pick a single memory that I like the most from these times but no matter what, the people who I was able to spend my time with were able to make every moment enjoyable.

What are your post-graduation plans?
My post-graduation plans are still a bit unknown as I am deciding whether I want to move back home to Alexandria or stay in the Fargo/Moorhead area but I know that there would be great opportunities in both.
