Senior Salute - Miriah Forness

The Cobber "Senior Salute" series is a way to honor all the Concordia spring sports athletes who had their senior season come to an abrupt halt. We want to highlight one senior each day to thank them for all their hard work, dedication and Cobber spirit they have show over their careers in maroon and gold.

Cobber Senior Salute - Miriah Forness - Women's Track & Field

What is one of the top things you will miss about being a Cobber athlete?
I will miss the Cobber athletic family and getting to compete for something bigger and better than myself.  I am going to miss practice being one of the best moments of my day because it brightens my day getting be around incredibly fun and positive people and helping them reach their goals and in the process reaching some of mine. This Cobber family is full of amazing people who have such a big heart for competition and their teammates, and even those who are not on their team. I am going to miss contributing to this amazing group of people and helping to raise the bar for competition, as well as being able to celebrate others’ successes.

What is something you are going to miss about Concordia College – away from athletics?
I am going to miss the time sitting in DS with my friends and teammates. I will miss all the deep conversations, belly aches from laughing too hard, food thrown, glasses spilled, and desserts eaten together while spending that quality time away from schoolwork and sports for a while.

What is one of your favorite highlights/memories from your time playing athletics/being with your team?
Well I have a couple that come to my mind that relates to myself and then my whole team. One would be running the 3k steeplechase for the first time. My mom was SO MAD at me because she thought it was the most terrifying race and wayyyy too long - and then I ran down the UND girl in the homestretch to win and got her to say “it may be worth continuing to try this event.” Another would be running our 4x800 relay at Drake for the first time of the season and placing way ahead of our seed and everyone running well and we were super excited. The final of the best moments was one of the last ones when our boys 4x400 beat Bethel in the homestretch and our entire team sprinted over to them screaming and hugging each other and everyone was so excited and proud to be a part of Cobber T&F.

What is one of your favorite memories from Concordia away from athletics?
Going on the Habitat for Humanity trip to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We had such an awesome time driving down in the vans (and almost died turning left by a driver who will not be named) and had so many memories on the job site with all our group members and the hilarious site manager, Billy, who accidentally cut down a neighbor’s tree and quite the conversation ensued following the incident.

What are your post-graduation plans?
I am planning to take a gap-year and spend the year working in a healthcare facility or being a physician scribe. I will either be attending medical school or PA school in the future. I plan to continue working at CCRI and working equine therapy at Joy Ranch through the summer, as well as go on a mission trip to the Yucatan and run the Fargo Half Marathon.
