Scheels Cobber Athletes Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/06/16)—One athlete put up a boatload of numbers while the other swam more than a boat can go on a full tank of gas. Jordan Bolger and Annie Herkenhoff used wins and inspired play to earn the Scheels Cobber Athletes of the Week honor.

Bolger averaged 21.3 points and 11.0 rebounds in the men’s basketball team’s three games last week. He helped the Cobbers go 2-1 and move all the way to a tie for second place in the conference standings. Herkenhoff continued her senior breakout season in swimming as she won four individual events and swam 3,750 yards in the span on less than 24 hours.

Scheels is pleased to congratulate the Cobber Athletes of the Week award winners. Each week the Concordia sports information department will choose a deserving Cobber male and female athlete of the week.

Scheels has been a longtime supporter of Concordia athletics and is excited to continue their showcasing of the great passion that Cobber athletes bring to the game. MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
JORDAN BOLGER – Sr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS
It’s the third time in the last four weeks for Bolger to earn the Scheels Cobber Athlete of the Week award – and with good cause. He continues to have a MIAC MVP-type season. In addition to his three Scheels weekly honor, Bolger was also named the MIAC Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.

Bolger had his biggest point contribution of the week against fellow second-place squad St. Olaf. He put up a career-high 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win over the Oles. Bolger then capped his week by stuffing the stat sheet against Augsburg. He came away with 21 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and three steals to help Concordia better the Auggies in Minneapolis.

Bolger's huge week has bumped his season averages in all stat categories. He continues to lead the MIAC in scoring with a robust 19.1 points per game average. He is second in the league in rebounds in league games with an 8.9 rebounds per game average. Bolger is also ranked in the top 5 of the MIAC in nine different statistical categories.

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
ANNIE HERKENHOFF – Sr., Freeport, Minn./Melrose HS
Herkenhoff did more in a span of 24 hours than most athletes do in a full week of competition to earh her second Scheels weekly award of the season . She competed in the Hamline Triangular on Friday at 6 p.m. and won the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. She had season-best times in both events and helped the Cobbers beat Hamline and Augsburg at the event.

Herkenhoff followed that performance with a 2-win meet at the St. Catherine dual which started at noon on Saturday. Herkenhoff started the meet by winning the 1650-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 18:43.58. She then won the 100-yard freestyle to push her win total to four for the weekend. Most athletes would have been in a full-body ice bath or curled up in a corner at that point but Herkenhoff got back in the pool and swam the 500-yard freestyle to finish off her 3,750 mile weekend. She finished second in the race with a time 5:33.14.
