Berg Adds National Award To Resume

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/12/19)---Senior Alex Berg was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week for his 16-tackle performance in the Cobbers' win over St. Olaf in the 46th annual Lefse Bowl.

Berg becomes the second Concordia player to earn the national weekly award in as many weeks. Fellow senior linebacker Willie Julkes earned the honor last week as a member of the Cobber special teams. It is the first time in his career that Berg has won the national award.

Berg continued his outstanding senior season by helping the Concordia defense post its third shutout of the season. The Cobbers held St. Olaf to 40 rushing yards and 141 yards of total offense as they retained the Troll Trophy for the eighth straight season.

Berg had 10 tackles in the first half and finished with a season-high 16 tackles which included nine solo tackles. He also had 2.5 tackles for a loss.

Berg leads Concordia in total tackles (82), solo tackles (51), tackles for a loss (12.5) and sacks (5.5) his season. He also leads the MIAC in solo tackles and is third in sacks and tackles for a loss.

Berg now has 273 career tackles which is fifth on the school's all-time tackle list. He is six tackles shy of fourth place on the list which is led by Thad Tudor who had 371 tackles from 1988-91.

Berg also has 136 solo tackles which is fourth on the all-time program career list. His 26.5 tackles for a loss is tied for ninth in school history.

Berg will have a chance to add to his defensive totals when he closes out his career on Saturday, Nov. 16 when the Cobbers play at Carleton at 1 p.m.
