MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/11/19)---Senior Alex Berg was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Cobbers shutout St. Olaf 14-0 in the 46th annual Lefse Bowl.

It is the second time Berg has won a conference weekly honor this year and fourth in his career. Berg was named the MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 30. It is his third Defensive Player of the Week honor as he claimed the award on one occasion in both the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Berg had a huge game in the final home game of his college career. He had 10 tackles in the first half against the Oles and finished with a game-high 16 total tackles. The 16 total tackles is a season high and also ties a career high for tackles in a single game. Berg also had 16 tackles in a game against Gustavus in 2016.

Berg also disrupted the St. Olaf passing and running attack behind the line of scrimmage. He recorded 2.5 tackles for a loss which is the second highest total of his career. He had 3.0 tackles for a loss against Hamline earlier this season.

Berg leads Concordia in total tackles (82), solo tackles (51), tackles for a loss (12.5) and sacks (5.5) his season. He also leads the MIAC in solo tackles and is third in sacks and tackles for a loss.

Berg now has 273 career tackles which is fifth on the school's all-time tackle list. He is six tackles shy of fourth place on the list which is led by Thad Tudor who had 371 tackles from 1988-91.

Berg also has 136 solo tackles which is fourth on the all-time program career list. His 26.5 tackles for a loss is tied for ninth in school history.

Berg will have a chance to add to his defensive totals when he closes out his career on Saturday, Nov. 16 when the Cobbers play at Carleton at 1 p.m.
