Bye Earns MIAC Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/21/15)—Concordia senior linebacker Erik Bye was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his career day against St. John's.

Bye had a career-high 17 tackles in the Cobbers' drama-filled loss against the No.8-ranked Johnnies. He finished with four solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles to lead all defensive players in the game.

It is the first time this season that a Concordia player has earned a conference weekly award. It is also the first time for Bye to earn the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Bye was a part of the Cobber defense which held St. John's to 24 points and 335 yards of total offense. The nationally ranked Johnnies entered the game averaging 50.5 points and 435 yards per game this season.

Bye leads the Cobbers with 25 total tackles this season. He is fifth in the MIAC in that statistical category. Bye is also fourth in the MIAC in assisted tackles (15) and in tackles per game (8.3).

Concordia will be looking to get back on the winning track when they head to Northfield to play St. Olaf on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. The game is billed as the annual Lefse Bowl and the winner gets the Troll trophy - the ugliest rivalry trophy in all of college football.
