Three Earn MIAC Postseason Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/18/21)----Andy Gravdahl, Matt Gruber and Ty Syverson all earned MIAC postseason honors as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Gravdahl earned MIAC All-Defensive Team honors while Gruber and Syverson were chosen for the MIAC All-Conference Team.  Senior Jack Naugle was selected by Concordia as the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Syverson earns the second MIAC All-Conference award of his career. He was also named to the team as a sophomore in 2019. Gravdahl picks up his second conference postseason honor. He was named the MIAC Rookie of the Year in 2019.

The group of postseason award winners helped the Cobbers finish the MIAC season with a 9-12 record which earned the No.7 seed in the conference Round of 12. Concordia then swept St. Olaf 2-0 to advance to the MIAC playoffs for the first time since 2015.

Gravdahl was the top center fielder in the league. His speed and quick first step helped track down many fly balls from gap to gap. He finished the Cobbers' 21 MIAC games by not committing an error in 70 chances. He had 67 putouts and three assists.

Gruber led the team in hitting in conference play. He played in all 21 league games and finished with a .390 average which was seventh best in the MIAC. Gruber's 32 hits were third most in the league and his on-base percentage of .444 and slugging percentage of .488 were also in the Top 15 of the conference.

Gruber also led the team in doubles (8) and runs scored (15) in league games.

Gruber had at least one hit in 17 of the team's 21 MIAC games and had nine multiple-hit games. His top performance came in the league opener when he went 5-for-6 with at Hamline. Gruber also had a 4-hit game vs. Bethel.

Syverson was the Cobbers' No.1 starting pitcher all season long. He fashioned a 3.20 earned run average and was 3-2 against MIAC opponents. He struck out 38 hitters in 36.0 innings pitched. His 38Ks were tied for fourth most in the league and his 36.0 innings pitched were 10th most in the conference.

Syverson made seven appearances and five starts in conference play. He went 6.0 innings in five of his seven appearances and had at least five strikeouts in four games. His top outing came against Augsburg when he took over in the second inning, pitched the final 8.0 frames, didn't allow a run and struck out 14.

Concordia's season continues when they play at St. Mary's in the MIAC Playoff Play-In game on Wednesday, May 19 at 1 p.m. The winner of the 9-inning game will advance to the double-elimination semifinals which will be held at St. John's on May 20-22.
