Ver Steeg Signs Pro Contract

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/26/21)---The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks announced that they have signed former Cobber All-Region pitcher Austin Ver Steeg to a professional, free-agent contract.

Ver Steeg, who graduated from Concordia in 2020, becomes the third Cobber to sign with the Redhawks since the 2019 season. The Redhawks are part of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball and are managed by current Cobber head coach Chris Coste.

Ver Steeg was 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three starts and 18.0 innings pitched in his shortened season in 2020. He finished his Concordia career with a 2.14 ERA in 142.2 innings pitched. He recorded 117 strikeouts in his 4-year career and had a WHIP of 1.016.

Ver Steeg posted back-to-back All-Region honors in 2018 and 2019. He was only the eighth player in program history to earn consecutive All-Region honors. He was also named to the MIAC All-Conference Team in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019.

Ver Steeg led the Cobber pitching staff in earned run average in both the 2018 and 2019 campaigns. He finished 2019 with a 1.41 ERA in 44.2 innings pitched. He also led the team in walk-plus-hits/innings pitched (WHIP) with a 0.895 mark. Ver Steeg started eight games in 2019 and went 3-4 on the season. He struck out 43, only allowed five extra base hits and opponents had a .194 batting average.

Cole Christenson and Alec Sames were the other former Cobber players who signed with the Redhawks over the past two seasons.
