Johnson Is 4th Cobber To Earn MIAC Weekly Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/13/15)—Concordia senior outfielder Devin Johnson was named the MIAC Player of the Week after hitting hit .588 and helping the Cobbers to a 4-1 record last week.

Johnson is the fourth Concordia player to earn conference weekly honors. He joins Ross Merriman, Nick Bornhauser and Kyle Connelly as MIAC Player/Pitcher of the Week award winners. Bornhauser earned Player of the Week honors on two occasions.   

Johnson hit safely in all five games during the week and had four multiple-hit games . Johnson also made history during his five-game stint. He was the first player to record a base hit in the new CHS Field on Saturday. CHS Field is the new stadium for the St. Paul Saints as well as Hamline University.

Johnson currently has a nine-game hitting streak.

In addition to his .588 batting average against Minn.-Morris, Macalester and Hamline, Johnson posted a formidable .882 slugging percentage, had a .682 on-base percentage, scored 10 runs and amassed six RBI. He also fielded all 10 chances in the outfield cleanly.

Johnson's top games came against Morris and the opener against Macalester. He was 2-for-3 with three RBI in the win over the Cougars on Monday. He hit his first home run of the season and also had a walk in the game. Against the Scots he went 3-for-4, scored three runs and drove in a pair. He also had a pair of doubles.

Johnson's history-making base hit came in the very first inning at CHS Field. He singled to left field to record the first base hit in stadium history. Johnson went 3-for-7 in the split with the Pipers.      

Johnson will look to extend his nine-game hit streak when the Cobbers play at bethel on Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
