Van Beek Inducted Into Perham HS Hall of Fame
MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/06/23)--- Concordia head coach Maddie Van Beek will be inducted into the Perham High School Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. Van Beek is a part of the Hall of Fame Class that includes four individuals and the 1991 girls' basketball team.
Van Beek, who has been the Cobber men's and women's cross country head coach for the past three seasons, was a state champion in cross country, a 2-time state champion in track and field, a 9-time state qualifier in cross country and track and field and a member of a pair of cross country teams that finished second at the Minnesota State High School Meet.
Van Beek won the individual cross country championship at the Minnesota state meet in 2009. She also claimed state titles in the 3200 meters at the state track and field meet in 2009 and during her senior season in 2010.
Van Beek went on to compete at North Dakota State University, where she was one of the most decorated distance runners in the Division I history of NDSU. She was named the Summit League Track MVP three times during her career and earned NCAA All-American honors in 2015 when she finished eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
In addition to her prowess on the track, Van Beek was a highly successful student-athlete for the Bison. She was a 2-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2015 and finished her collegiate career with a 4.0 grade point average as a double major in English and English Education. Van Beek was named the Summit League Scholar Athlete of the Year for all sports in her senior season and was also the Commencement speaker at NDSU in the winter of 2014.
Van Beek is still ranked among NDSU's all-time Top 5 in the mile, 3000 and 5000 meters indoors and the 15000, 5000 and 3000-meter steeplechase outdoors.
Van Beek has also competed at the national Olympic level. She was a qualifier for the 2020 US Olympic Trials in the marathon and competed in the US Olympic Trials in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 2016.
