Frolek & Fredrickson Go Top 20 But Rooney Wins Improvement Race

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (9/25/21)---Concordia used the Top 20 finishes by freshman Drew Frolek and senior Isabel Fredrickson to place third in the final team standings at the Carleton Invite. It is the second straight Top 5 team finish for the Cobbers.

Concordia finished with a final team total of 95 which was seven points clear of fourth-place Macalester.

Frolek led Concordia for the second straight meet. She covered the 6K Bill Huyck Championship Course in 24:04.0 and finished in 14th place. It was the first time this season that the Cobbers had ran more than a 5K. Frolek was less than 25-seconds away from a Top 10 finish.

Fredrickson was right behind Frolek for most of the meet. She crossed the line in 16th place with a time of 24:25.0. Her time is almost 90-seconds better than her mark at the 2019 Carleton Invite where she clocked a 25:49.0.    

The Cobbers had a second first-year runner complete their Top 3. Eden Smith came home in 24:43.1 and placed 23rd in the individual standings. It is her second straight meet inside the team's Top 3.

Kaitlyn Rooney posted the biggest improvement on the Cobbers from the last time they ran the Carleton course. In 2019 she ran a 28:04.5 and finished in 144th place. On Saturday she climbed all the way into the Top 30 and dropped a full 3-minutes off of her time. Rooney covered the 6K in 24:57.9 and was 29th in the final individual standings.

Kelly Lorenz finished off the team's Top 5 scoring places. She was 33rd with a mark of 25:12.3.

UP NEXT: Concordia will host the annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 2 and then return to competition when they head to Jamestown to take part in the Jamestown Invitational on Friday, Oct. 8.
