Andersen, CC Earn USTFCCCA Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/14/19)--- Junior Kara Andersen and Concordia earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national academic honors. 

Andersen earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the first time in her career while Concordia earned the team distinction for the 19th straight season and posted the second highest GPA of any school in the MIAC.  

Andersen, who carries a 3.95 grade point average while majoring in Mathematical Finance, was named to the All-Academic Team.  The academic honor follows success on the course in the fall. Andersen earned her first-ever NCAA All-Region honor as she finished 28th at the NCAA Central region meet. Andersen also earned MIAC Academic All-Conference honors for the second straight season.

There were 682 student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with women accounting for 56 percent of that total (382). No program had more total individuals honored than Johns Hopkins, which brought home a staggering 17 distinctions.

In order to qualify for this honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.

The Cobbers compiled a team grade point average of 3.68 and was one of nine MIAC women's teams earning All-Academic honors. The MIAC had one of the highest amount of teams win the award of any conference in the nation. 

For a team to be considered for this honor, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Overall, there were 393 teams honored by the USTFCCCA, of which 215 were women's teams.

In total 135 programs that had both their women's and men's teams earn the honor. The LeTourneau women reported the highest team GPA at 3.85, while the MIT men had the highest GPA of their gender at 3.78.
