Another Meet, Another No. 1 Runner

DULUTH, Minn. (10/08/11)—For the fourth consecutive meet to start the 2011 season, Concordia had a different runner step up and lead the team. On Saturday at the Pine Hill Invite hosted by Minnesota Duluth, it was junior Kasey Petersen's turn to take the team's No.1 title. Peterson ran a 23:53.3 over the six kilometer course and finished in 25th place.

Peterson, and a group of CC runners who finished the course in personal record time, helped Concordia finish in fifth place at the meet.

The Cobbers had seven athletes tour the Pine Hills golf course in personal record time. That group featured junior Jenna Nypan and sophomore Emily Royer who are both competing in their first season of collegiate cross country and both were able to drop around 2:00 off their previous personal best times.

Concordia had only :26 seconds separate the top 4 pack of runners which included Petersen, senior co-captain Caroline McLaughlin and sophomores Hannah Knickerbocker and Paige Rygg. After that crew came junior Liz Hanson who crossed the line in a time of 24:56.9. She was the No.5 runner for CC at the meet and the gap between the No.1 and No.5 runners was less than 1:00. That span is very good and has become the custom for the pack running Cobbers.

The Concordia women harriers competed for the second meet in a row without sophomore Morgan Christian who was the team's No.1 runner at the MSU Moorhead Invite.

The Cobbers will compete at the Jimmie Invitational hosted by Jamestown College at the Hillcrest Golf Course on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 4 p.m.
