Cobbers Cap Non-Conference Campaign With A Win

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (10/18/22)---Concordia dropped the opening point in its match with Crown, and that was one of the last things that didn't go in favor of the Cobbers, as they rolled to a 3-1 (25-9, 21-25, 25-11, 25-19) over the Polars in their final non-conference match of the year.

The Cobbers rattled off 12 of the next 15 points in the opening set, and never looked back as they won their second straight – and fifth in the last seven matches.

Concordia is now 7-13 on the season. The seven wins is two shy of the team's total of nine in all of last season.

The Cobbers took the opening set by hitting .333 and holding a 13-2 advantage in kills. Concordia stumbled down the stretch of the second set. They hit .022 in set No.2 and had seven winners as compared to .171 and 13 kills for the Polars.

The third and fourth sets were all maroon and gold. Concordia hit .406 in the third and .333 in the fourth, and had 15 kills in each set.

The Cobbers finished with an attack percentage of .246 on the night, which is the third highest mark of the season – and the second straight match they have hit over .240. Concordia also reached the 50-kill plateau for the fourth time in the last seven matches. CC had 50 winners, and has now reached that mark in seven matches this season.

Head Coach Faith Radermacher was able to use 16 different players in the non-conference match-up. CC had 11 players with at least one kill in the match. Senior Brook Carney posted a team-high nine kills and hit .261. She also came away with two solo blocks.

Hannah Keil had eight winners and hit a season-high .389, while Kendra Wiggs and Maria Watt both had seven kills. Wiggs hit a team-best .545 for the match which is also a season-best mark. Watt hit .267, and had a team-high three blocks.

Hanna Mooney led the Cobber defense with 13 digs. She has now posted a double-digit dig total in two of the last three matches and in seven total matches this year.

Junior setter Kaia Lill had the most all-around stat night for CC. She recorded 22 assists, five kills and six digs. The five winners are a season-high total.

UP NEXT: Concordia will host its second home conference double dip of the month of October. The Cobbers will face No.16-ranked Gustavus on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., and then host St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m.
