A Tale Of Two Days On Season-Opening Weekend

ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/04/21)---It was a tale of two days for the Cobbers in their opening weekend of the 2021 season. Concordia dropped a pair of sweeps on Friday and then swept a pair of matches on Saturday to close out the weekend.

The Cobbers lost the season opener to Coe (25-23, 25-20, 25-19), and then dropped the second 3-0 decision of the day to Buena Vista (25-15, 25-17, 25-20) in the nightcap. CC responded by rolling over Crown (25-17, 25-21, 25-9) in the first match of Day, and then swept Bethany Lutheran (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) in the final match of the weekend.

Senior Anna Brakke led all Cobber players over the weekend. She had team-highs in kills (30) and digs (46). Fellow senior Kendra Wiggs had 29 kills and six blocks.

A pair of freshmen setters topped the team's assist list. Kenzie Urbanec had a team-high 58 assists in the four matches while Mariah Iwen added 50. Sophomore Madison Kisch posted a team-high seven blocks and Chloe Markovic averaged 10.0 digs in the four matches.

UP NEXT: Concordia will take an early week trip to South Dakota when they play at Presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. The Saints are 4-2 on the season and were picked to finish seventh in the North Star Athletic Association preseason coaches' poll.
