Saving Their Best For Last

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/26/21)--- The Cobbers saved their best match for last. Concordia posted team-high totals in attack percentage and sets won and recorded a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-18) sweep over St. Catherine. The victory is the first of the spring for Concordia.

The Cobbers never trailed in the first set – the closest of the three. The Cobbers' lead never went above four points in the opener as they were able to play a complete set and finish off the bout by winning three of the final five points.

Concordia trailed for the start of the second set before they went on a 6-1 run to turn a 9-9 tie score into a 15-10 advantage. The Wildcats would cut the lead to two points at 19-17 before Concordia came through with their second closing streak of the match.

The third set, and the match, was won in the middle part of the bout. CC was able to put together an 10-7 stretch to take a 6-point lead at 20-14.

In a fitting end to the match, and the season, senior setter Jill Klaphake got the assist on a kill from fellow senior Bailey Gronner.

Concordia finished the three sets with a season-best .202 hitting percentage. They hovered in the 100s for the first two sets before finishing with a .316 mark in the third set.

The Cobbers held a 40-30 edge in kills and recorded nine more digs on the day.

Concordia had four players with at least five kills in the match. Anna Brakke led all players with 10 winners. She also put up a match-best 18 digs.

Brook Carney had nine kills and 11 digs while Kendra Wiggs added five kills and three digs.

The senior trio of Gronner, Klaphake and Lexi Turn all made huge contributions in their final collegiate match. Gronner had eight kills and three digs. Klaphake went for 13 assists, 12 digs and even had two kills. Turn had a match-high 14 assists and also had eight digs.
