Home Conference Success Continues

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/05/19)---Concordia used its conference home court advantage to sweep Macalester 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-13) and earn its second MIAC victory of the season.

The Cobbers are now 2-0 in Memorial Auditorium against league opponents and 2-2 overall in MIAC play. Macalester falls to 3-14 in all matches and 0-5 in the conference.

Concordia trailed early in each set but then used point streaks to take control of each set and cruise to big wins. The Cobbers used a 7-1 run midway through the first set to win by 11. They put up a 6-0 streak in set 2 and won by seven and then had a 12-2 run at the start of the third set and won by 13.

The Cobbers hit at least .210 in all three sets and limited the Scots to under .025 in all three bouts. Concordia finished with a .277 attack percentage for the match as opposed to -.009 for Macalester.

Senior Brianna Carney led the Cobber attack crew. She had a match-high nine kills and hit .278. She also picked up three digs and four blocks.

Concordia also continued its season-long success on defense at the net. The Cobbers lead the MIAC in blocks and added 10 more on Saturday. CC now has a league-best 166 blocks for the season. They are averaging 2.52 blocks per set which also leads the MIAC.

Sophomore Kendra Wiggs came away with a match-high five blocks. Concordia had four players with at least three blocks in the match. Bailey Gronner added four and Anna Brakke had three.

Junior Casey Coste had one of her top defensive matches of the season. She finished with a team-high 17 digs and has had at least 17 digs in two of the past three matches.

The junior setter tandem of Jill Klaphake and Lexi Turn combined for 31 assists. Klaphake had 16 helpers and Turn added 15.   
         
UP NEXT: Concordia will have a home midweek non-conference match before heading out on the weekend for their annual MIAC road trip doubleheader. The Cobbers will host Minn.-Morris on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. and then play at St. Olaf on Friday, October 11 and at St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 12.
