No Comeback In The Cards

MORRIS, Minn. (9/21/19)--- There would be no dramatic comeback for the Cobbers in their non-conference match at Minn.-Morris. The Cobbers rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Wednesday to beat St. Catherine but couldn't overcome a 2-1 margin on Saturday and fell 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19) to the Cougars.

The teams traded set wins in the first two bouts. The end of the third set would be the pivotal part of the match as the Cobbers led late but then Morris was able to go on an extended run and win in extra points at 27-25.

The Cobbers hit .132 for the four sets and had 38 kills on 167 total attempts. Concordia also had 65 digs, six service aces and a combined 21 blocks. Morris came away with a .159 attack percentage, posted 68 winners, five aces and eight combined blocks.

Anna Brakke led the CC attack with nine kills and 12 digs. Marissa Thompson had a team-high .286 attack percentage and added six kills.

Brianna Carney had a match-high seven block assists and posted a similar seven kills. Gabby DeBoer recorded 14 digs and freshman setter Ashley Adams had 14 assists.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will return to MIAC play when they play at No.18-ranked St. Thomas on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. The Tommies are 13-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
