Carney Earns Second All-MIAC Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/31/18)---Brianna Carney capped her junior season by being named to the MIAC All-Conference Team. Senior Haley Cuppett was chosen by Concordia as the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Carney earns the second MIAC All-Conference award in her collegiate career. She was also named to the All-Conference Team as a freshman in 2016. She is also the 10th Cobber player to earn multiple All-MIAC honors since 2000.  

Carney and Cuppett, the lone upperclassmen on the 2018 Concordia squad, helped the Cobbers finish in a tie for seventh place in the final MIAC standings. Concordia went 4-7 in conference play and was 9-18 in all matches.

Carney led the Cobbers in kills, hitting percentage and blocks in MIAC matches. She finished with 95 winners in 11 league contests, hit an impressive .341 and put back a total of 41 would-be winners . Her attack percentage and block total are career-highs in a single season in conference play.

Carney had a double-digit kill total in four league matches and had at least four blocks in six matches. Her high-water marks for the conference slate came when she put down 15 kills in the final match of the season vs. St. Benedict and when she posted nine blocks against St. Olaf – both teams advanced to the MIAC playoffs.  

Carney finished third in the MIAC in attack percentage in conference matches. She was also fourth in total blocks. Carney also finished the league year with 13 solo blocks which was second among all MIAC players.    

In all matches Carney had 224 kills, hit 216 and came away with 66 blocks. She has now hit at least .200 in all three of her collegiate seasons. Carney has 647 kills in her Cobber career and has 193 total blocks.
