Cobbers Fall In Season Finale

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (10/28/17)--- Concordia couldn't sustain their offensive attack after the first set and dropped its season finale at playoff-bound St. Benedict. The Cobbers hit .286 in the first set and won 25-22 but then fell off that attack percentage and lost 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-18) to the Blazers.

Concordia finished the year with a 7-15 overall record and a 4-7 mark in the MIAC. St. Benedict improves to 17-8 in all matches and enters the conference playoffs as the No.2 seed with a 9-2 league record.

In addition to the Cobbers falling off on the offensive side of the net in sets 2,3 and 4 – Concordia had a hard time defending the Blazer offense. After Concordia's .286 hitting mark in the first set, the Cobbers didn't hit over .130 in the final three sets. St. Benedict was able to hit over .280 in the final three sets and finished with a .273 mark for the match. Concordia had a .139 attack percentage for the four sets.

Haley Cuppett led the Cobber offense as she had a match-high 17 kills and hit .196 in 51 attack chances. She also recorded five digs and a block. Her 17 winners tied a career best for the junior.

Brianna Carney had one of the most all-around matches of the day. She had 10 kills, hit .156, had four digs and a match-high six blocks.

Senior Stephanie Baker had a team-high 20 digs in the final match of her career. It marked the fourth time this season she has reached the 20-dig mark.

Jill Klaphake had 23 assists and Lexi Turn finished with 18 helpers as the two led the CC offense.
