Offense On Track In Final Home Match

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/25/17)--- Concordia was able to get on track offensively from the opening serve, hit a conference-match best .266 and rolled St. Catherine 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 26-24).

The Cobbers were able to knock down winners early in the first set and finished with 49-41 advantage for the three sets.

The win is the second in the last three league matches for Concordia and ups their overall record to 4-6 in the MCC IAC and 7-14 overall. St. Catherine falls to 9-15 overall and 1-9 in the MIAC.

Concordia took an early lead in the first set but then had to hold off a Wildcat rally midway through the set to take a 9-8 lead. The Cobbers then went on an 8-3 streak to grab a 17-11 lead. CC then finished off the set with a 6-2 run.

The Cobbers never trailed in the second set and led by as many as eight points and held off a lat4e run by St. Catherine to win by three at 25-22.

The third set was the closest with the bout staying within three points until CC went out to a 19-15 advantage. SCU responded with a 5-1 run to tie the set at 20-20. The Cobbers clinched the match by winning the final two points after the Wildcats staved off a match point at 24-23.

Concordia hit over .300 in the first and third sets and .167 in the second bout. The Cobbers hit .266 for the match which is a season high against an MIAC opponent. St. Catherine had a .152 attack percentage for the match.

The Cobbers held a 77-67 edge in digs and 6-4 advantage in team blocks.

Haley Cuppett and Faith Anderson led the Cobber offense with double-digit kill totals. Cuppett had a match-high 14 kills and hit a match-high .414. Anderson had 11 winners and hit .257.

Senior Stephanie Baker had a match-high 18 digs in her final match in Memorial Auditorium. Casey Coste had 13 digs to help out the defensive cause.

Jill Klaphake and Lexi Turn had a pair of all-around matches. Klaphake had 24 assists and 10 digs while Turn added 15 helpers and eight digs.

Brianna Carney was a force at the net and came away with four blocks.
