Momentum Doesn't Carry Over At Morris

MORRIS, Minn. (10/13/17)--- Concordia used a 5-1 run at the end of the first set to win 25-22 but couldn't carry over the momentum and dropped the next three sets to lose 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 21-25, 18-25) at Minn.-Morris.

The Cobbers led 12-11 in the match-changing third set but then gave up a 9-2 streak and fell behind 20-14 before losing 25-21. Concordia never led after the 12-11 edge in the third set and lost 25-18 in the fourth.

The loss is the third straight for the Cobbers who drop to 4-13 on the season. Morris, who beat St. Scholastica earlier on Friday, has now won five of its last six matches and is 22-6 overall.

Concordia had a .195 attack percentage which is the highest in eight matches. It is also the fourth best mark of the season for the Cobbers.

The Cobbers had 44 kills in the match as opposed to 56 for Morris. The Cougars hit .216 for the four sets. Concordia held a 56-51 edge in digs and a 12-9 advantage in blocks. The 12 team blocks ties for the second most in the season for CC.

Concordia didn't have a player with more than nine kills but had three players with at least eight winners. Junior Emily Friedrich led the Cobbers with nine kills and hit a team-best .353. Her attack percentage is the second highest of the season.

Fellow junior Haley Cuppett had eight winners while Alicia Louters also had eight kills and hit .353.

Brianna Carney had seven kills and a match-high six blocks. Emma Chandler added a career-high five blocks for the Concordia defense.

Stephanie Baker came away with a match-high 17 digs and Jill Klaphake added 20 assists. Lexi Turn also had 17 helpers in the four-set match.

50-BLOCK CLUB: With her six blocks against Morris, Brianna Carney now has 52 for the season which marks the second straight season she has reached the 50-block plateau. Last year she finished with 57 blocks.
