Experience Earns Upperclassmen All-MIAC Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/06/13)—Experience paid off for Concordia in the MIAC postseason awards as three upperclassmen were all named to the MIAC All-Conference Team. Seniors Kayla Hampton and Angie Waller earned their first-ever all-conference honor while junior Kynndyl Ross was a repeat selection to the league's postseason team.

Cobber junior Olivia Wangensteen was the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

The four players helped Concordia finish with a 9-2 record in conference play. The Cobbers placed in a tie for third place in the MIAC standings which marked the fourth straight season that CC has earned a top 3 finish in the league standings. Concordia also captured its 13th straight MIAC playoff berth.

Hampton had a breakout season in 2013. She finished with career highs in kills and blocks. Hampton was second on the team in kills against conference competition. Hampton had 101 winners in the 11 league matches. She finished third in the MIAC in block assists and total blocks and 11th in hitting percentage. Hampton had 37 block assists and 43 total blocks while hitting at a .272 clip. She led the Cobbers with 15 kills in their victory over defending national champion St. Thomas on Oct. 9.   

Waller was moved to a more defensive spot in 2013 and responded by leading the team in digs and service aces. Waller came away with 165 digs for the league season and added 14 service aces. Both totals were in the top 10 of the conference. She was 10th in digs and ninth in service winners. Waller had at least 10 digs in all 11 conference matches this season.     

Ross was the team's main offensive weapon throughout the season. She finished with a team-high 131 kills in conference play. She was seventh in the MIAC in that statistical category. Ross had at least 10 kills in nine of the 11 league matches. She had a season-high 17 kills against St. Catherine on Oct. 2. Ross was also seventh in the MIAC in total attacks (338) and ninth in points (145.0).
