Hampton Named MIAC Hitter Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/15/13)—Kayla Hampton was named the MIAC Hitter of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office.

Hampton was the main offensive weapon in the Cobbers' 3-2 upset win over No.3-ranked St. Thomas last week. It is the first MIAC weekly award for Hampton and she becomes the first Concordia player to earn Player of the Week honors this season.

Hampton had 15 kills, three digs and two block assists to help Concordia record the 3-2 victory over the Tommies. Her 15 kills came against just two errors in 28 attempts for an outstanding hitting percentage of .464. The win snapped St. Thomas' 33-match home winning streak which was the longest of any NCAA Division I, II or III school. In addition, the loss ended the Tommies' 20-match win streak against conference opponents and 18-match regular season winning streak.

Hampton has had a breakout season in 2013. She currently has 178 kills, 70 digs and 64 total blocks. Her .365 hitting percentage in conference play and 23 total blocks both rank fourth in the MIAC.

Concordia, who is tied atop the MIAC standings, will look to continue its success against MIAC foes when they host St. Olaf on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. and then Gustavus on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
