Wangensteen Earns MIAC Weekly Award

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/17/13)—Concordia sophomore Olivia Wangensteen was named the MIAC Hitter of the Week it was announced on Tuesday by the league office. Wangensteen had 39 kills and 49 digs in the team's Washington weekend.

Concordia went 2-1 on the west coast and is now 8-4 on the season. The Cobbers have won four of their last six matches.

Wangensteen's biggest contribution of the weekend came in the Cobbers' 3-2 win over No.11-ranked Puget Sound. Wangensteen had 21 kills and added 15 digs to record her sixth double-double of the season. She also hit a team-high .321 to give Concordia its first win over a top 15 team in two years.

Wangensteen continued her stellar play in the second match where she posted eight kills and had 10 digs in a shortened stint in CC's sweep over Pacific. She finished off the weekend by picking up 10 kills and 24 digs against Pacific Lutheran in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss.

Wangensteen leads the Cobbers in kills this season. She has 134 winners in the team's first 12 matches of the year. She also leads in total points won at 156.0 and is second on the team in digs with 137. Wangensteen is sixth in the MIAC in total kills, fifth in total attacks and sixth in points.    

Concordia will now open conference play when they travel to St. Paul to take on Hamline on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
