Total Team Effort Extinguishes Comets

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/16/12)—Concordia had three players record 10 more kills, three players with at least 20 digs, three players with three or more blocks and two others with a minimum of 20 assists as they used a total team effort to beat Mayville State 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20) on Tuesday.

The Cobbers have now won four straight matches and eight of their last 10 as they improve to 10-8 on the season. The Comets fall for the third consecutive match and fall to 19-10.

Olivia Wangensteen, Angie Waller and Kynndyl Ross were the catalysts for the Concordia offensive attack that produced 69 kills and finished the four-set match with a .226 hitting percentage. Not surprisingly the Cobbers' four-match winning streak coincides with the fact they have hit over .200 in all four contests.

The Cobbers hit above .200 in three of the four sets against Mayville State. The high water mark came in the second set where they had a .390 attack percentage. CC hit only .019 in their loss in the third set.

Wangensteen had a team-high 17 kills for CC, hit .240 for the match and was one of the three players with 20 digs. She collected 22 digs. Waller had 13 kills and was another one of the three players with 20 digs. She finished with 20 digs to record her third double-double of the season. Ross chipped in 10 kills and hit .222.

Sophomore Kelly Reed led all players with a .583 hitting percentage. She had seven kills in 12 total attempts.

Rachel Wiinanen came away with a match-high 30 digs. It is the second time in the past six matches she has reached the 30-dig plateau.

Danelle Loomis and Shelby Bommersbach combined for 55 assists on the night. Loomis had a team-high 32 helpers while Bommersbach added 23.

The Cobber defense limited the Comets to 46 kills, an attack percentage of .161 and had 12 total blocks. Junior Kayla Hampton led the way with 4.0 blocks and freshman Anna Skow-Anderson was one behind with 3.0 stops.
