Wangensteen Named MIAC Hitter of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/24/12)—Concordia freshman Olivia Wangensteen (Woodbury, Minn.) was named the MIAC Hitter of the Week after helping the Cobbers go 2-0 in conference play last week. Wangensteen had 36 kills, 22 digs and three total blocks in victories over Bethel and St. Catherine. Overall the Cobbers are 3-0 in conference play and tied for first place in the league standings.

It is the first conference award for Wangensteen and she becomes the first Cobber to win an MIAC weekly award this year.

Wangensteen started the week with a 20-kill, seven-dig effort in the Cobber's 3-1 home win over Bethel team on Wednesday. She had a tremendous .444 hitting percentage in the win over the Royals and added two block assists, an ace and an assist to her full stat line. She followed that up with a 16-kill, 15-dig double-double in Saturday's 3-2 road win at St. Catherine. That also included two aces and a block assist.

Wangensteen is currently among the MIAC's top hitters in conference. She ranks second in the conference in kills (45) and kills per set (3.75) and sixth in hitting percentage (.304) and service aces (five) in MIAC matches.

Wangensteen and the rest of the Cobbers will be looking to continue their hot start to the MIAC season when they host St. Olaf on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
