A Record-Setting Number Of All-Americans

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/15/11)—Concordia had a record-setting three players earn All-American honors it was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Jenna Green and Katie Vohnoutka were named to the Division III All-American First team while Amy Sykora earned All-American Honorable Mention honors.

The awards come on the heels of another record breaking season for the Cobbers. The trio helped Concordia finish with a 27-4 record. That is the second most wins in a single season in school history. CC was also ranked in the top 25 of the nation the entire year and spent six weeks ranked in the top 10 of Division III. The three players also guided Concordia to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the second time in the past four seasons. In addition, the Cobbers were the MIAC regular season co-champions and won the MIAC conference tournament.

Green earns All-American honors for the third straight season but it is the first time she has been placed on the first, second or third teams. She is only the second Cobber player to earn All-American honors for three straight seasons. Green had terrific senior season as she led the team in kills and digs. She recorded 432 kills and 467 digs to become the first player in school history to achieve the 400 kill/400 dig milestone. Green also became only the second player in school history to reach the 1,000 kill/1,000 dig mark for a career. Green finished with 1,381 career kills and 1,501 career digs. She is the school's all-time dig leader and third on the all-time kill list.

Vohnoutka earns All-American honors for the second straight year. Last year she was named to the AVCA All-American Second Team. Vohnoutka was the team's dominant middle hitter. She finished the year with 358 kills and a 101 total blocks. It is the second straight season she has posted over 350 kills and 100 blocks. Vohnoutka eclipsed the 1,000-career kill mark during the year and finished with 1,272 kills and 293 total blocks. She is seventh on the school's all-time kill list and 10th in total blocks.

Sykora earns All-American honors for the first time in her career. She was the team's starting setter for four straight seasons and had career numbers in assists, kills, digs and service aces. She finished the year with 1,057 assists to become the sixth player in program history to amass more than 1,050 assists in a single season. She finished her four seasons with 3,132 assists which is the second highest total in program history.
