Sister Act 2

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/20/21)---Concordia junior Cayle Hovland (Willmar, Minn.) was named the MIAC Women's Outstanding Field Athlete for her performance in all three throwing events at last weekend's conference championship meet.

Cayle Hovland makes it a double for the Hovland family in earning the Outstanding Field Athlete award at the MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet. Older sister Bailey Hovland earned the honor in 2018 after she won the hammer, earned All-MIAC honors in the discus and All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors in the shot put. Bailey Hovland was the last Cobber athlete to earn a top award from an MIAC Outdoor Meet.

Cayle Hovland is also the third Cobber athlete to win the MIAC Outdoor Meet Most Outstanding Field Athlete award in the past four competed seasons. Emma Peterson earned the honor in 2017 before Bailey Hovland made it back-to-back Concordia winners in 2018.

Hovland won the discus, was third in the shot put and sixth in the hammer throw at the MIAC Meet. All three of her performances earned her All-Conference awards. She was All-MIAC in both the discus and shot put and All-MIAC Honorable Mention in the hammer throw.

Hovland won the discus on Saturday with a distance of 146-10 which she recorded in her very first attempt. That mark is No.14 in the nation this season and will earn her a spot at the NCAA National Meet on May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C. It is also the fifth farthest discus throw in school history.

Hovland's other event on Day 2 of the conference meet was the hammer throw where she finished sixth with a mark of 144-07.

Hovland started her award-winning meet by posting a Top 3 finish in the shot put on Friday. She placed third in event with a distance of 43-09.25. Hovland owns a national top 10 mark in the shot put which she put up earlier in the year. Her distance of 45-05 from the St. Ben's Last-Minute Meet is tied for 10th farthest in Division III and will also get her to NC for nationals.
