Hovland Collects 2nd Ticket To NC

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/08/21)---Cayle Hovland punched her ticket to North Carolina in a second event, while the rest of the Cobbers finished off their prep work for the MIAC Championship Meet in a pair of multi-team invites on Friday and Saturday.

Hovland won the discus at the St. Olaf Ole Open on Saturday with a distance of 146-04 which is the 12th best in Division III this season. The Top 18 in each event qualify for the NCAA Division III National Meet which will be held on May 27-29 in North Carolina this year.

Hovland's winning distance in the discus is also the fifth best in school history. Hovland also owns the ninth best mark in the shot put in Division III this year.

Hovland was part of the Cobber sprint and field crew that went to Northfield to compete at St. Olaf on Saturday while the middle distance and distance athletes ran at the USD Tune-Up meet on Friday.

Hovland was also second in the shot put and hammer throw at the Ole Open. She finished with a mark of 43-07.75 in the shot put and had a top distance of 146-06.

A pair of Cobbers were right behind Hovland in the hammer, shot put and discus events on Saturday. Junior Allyson Kangas came through with a PR in the hammer when she unleashed a toss of 145-06. That mark is the fifth farthest in the MIAC this year and No.14 on the school's all-time list.

Sophomore Jacey Schlosser was third in the shot put and second in the discus. She posted a distance of 37-09.50 in the shot put. Schlosser is currently eighth in the MIAC with a season-best distance of 39-11.50. Schlosser posted a season-best mark of 127-03 in the discus. That distance is No.9 in the conference this year.  

Freshman Aubrie Werk recorded a runner-up finish in the javelin. She had a season-best distance of 109-03 which moves her into the Top 10 in the MIAC this year. She is currently sixth in the conference, and one of three Cobbers in the Top 10 in the event.

Concordia had five athletes record personal-best times at the USD Tune-Up on Friday. Freshman 2-sport athlete Maddie Guler clocked her top times in both the 100 and 200 meters. She ran a 13.32 in the 100 and a 27.47 in the 200.

Senior Meritt Miller moved down to the middle-distance genre and recorded a PR time of 2:25.98 in the 800 meters.

A trio of CC runners all had PRs in the 1500 meters. Amelia Landsverk, Kaitlyn Rooney and Grace Ivesdal all clocked their best times in South Dakota. Landsverk led the three with a mark of 5:08.93 while Rooney was close behind at 5:09.96 and Ivesdal finished in 5:53.10.

Senior Josie Herrmann had the top finish of any Cobber at USD. She placed 12th with a time of 2:16.20. Herrmann owns the fastest time in the MIAC in the 800 this year. Her season-best mark of 2:12.69 is also No.8 in all of Division III this year.                  
UP NEXT: Concordia will look to come together and put even more PRs on the board when they compete in an MIAC Championship Meet on May 14-15 at Hamline.
