Southern Split Yields 15 PRs

ABERDEEN, S.D. (4/24/21)---Concordia went south down I29 and split the team in two directions. A small group headed to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the annual Drake Relays while a second crew stayed closer to Moorhead and participated in the Northern State Open.

Concordia finished the 3-day event weekend by posting 15 personal-record marks. The Cobbers also had senior Josie Herrmann record a pair of all-time Top 10 school marks.

Herrmann's success took place at the Drake Relays where she, and teammate Cayle Hovland, combined to come away with four Top 10 finishes in the college division.

Herrmann made her mark over the weekend in the 1500 and 800 meters. She clocked a 4:41.55 in the 1500 meters on Friday which was good for fifth place. Her finishing time is also the sixth fastest in program history and the fastest in the MIAC this year. Herrmann than flip-flopped her 1500-meter places on Saturday in the 800 meters. She crossed the line in 2:15.23 which earned her the No.6 spot in the race. Her time was the fifth fastest in school history and No.2 in the conference this year.

Hovland followed Herrmann's success by posting a Top 10 finish on each day of the meet. She started her weekend by launching the discus 137-06 on Friday. That distance was good for seventh place. Hovland came out on Saturday and put up a mark of 44-03.50 in the shot put and placed sixth.

Hovland owns the second-best distance in the shot put, and third farthest discus throw in the MIAC this season.

Carly Fornshell was the third member of the Cobbers to compete in Iowa. She raced in the 400-meter hurdles and crossed the line in a time of 1:11.18 which is No.10 in the MIAC this spring.

The larger contingent of Cobbers went to South Dakota and came away with 13 PR marks.

Sophomore sprinter Carlie Heinecke led the way for Concordia at the Northern State Open by posting a pair of personal best times – and finishing in the Top 10 in two races. She clocked a 13.33 in the 100 meters and then ran a 27.53 in the 200 meters. Her time in the 200 gets Heinecke into the Top 20 in the MIAC.

Fellow sophomore Jacey Schlosser jumped into the Top 10 in the conference with a PR mark in the hammer throw. She recorded a distance of 126-08 which is the farthest by any CC athlete this year and No.10 in the MIAC.

The Cobbers had a pair of freshmen break into the Top 6 in the MIAC in the javelin. Aubrie Werk uncorked a throw of 109-02 which is No.4 in the conference while Jessie Paulson was close behind at 105-06 and owns the No.6 mark in the MIAC.

Senior Meritt Miller came away with the highest finish of any Cobber at the NSU meet. She ran a PR time of 5:02.93 in the 1500 meters and finished in third place.
