Herrmann Earns MIAC Weekly Award

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/22/21)---What's the prize for running the fastest 800-meter time in the nation? Why being named MIAC Track Athlete of the Week of course. Senior Josie Herrmann clocked the best time in Division III on Saturday and on Monday she earned Athlete of the Week honors.

Herrmann, who qualified for the NCAA National Indoor Meet last season in the 800, becomes the first Cobber student/athlete to win Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors since 2004 when Angie Pfeiffer claimed the award on Feb. 3. Herrmann is only the second Concordia track athlete to win the award since the league started the honor in 2002.

Herrmann's time of 2:13.68 in the 800 meters at the UND Tune-Up Meet bettered the previous national best by .36 of a second. She also won the event at the meet which featured Division I and II student/athletes by almost a full second.

Herrmann also earned Track Athlete of the Week honors by virtue of her three event wins over the past two weekends – all against Division, I, II and NAIA competition. In addition to her victory in the 800 at UND, Herrmann also won the 600 and 800 meters at the Cobber double dual with Southwest Minnesota St. and Valley City St. on Feb. 13.

Herrmann, and the rest of the Cobbers, will face their first MIAC opponent when they compete against St. Benedict in a dual meet on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. The meet will be held at St. John 's.
