No.1 In The Nation

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (2/20/21)--- Miss 800 struck again. Senior Josie Herrmann used Division I competition to post the fastest time in the 800 meters in Division III this year. Herrmann's national-best performance was the high-water mark of the day for the Cobbers at the UND Tune-Up Meet in Grand Forks.

Herrmann outkicked a trio of runners from DI North Dakota and a pair of athletes from DII MSU Moorhead to cross the line in a time of 2:13.68. That time is the fastest in DIII by .36 of a second and the second fastest time in school history.

Herrmann was one of two track athletes to win events on Saturday – and both were seniors. Herrmann's cross-country teammate Meritt Miller captured the victory in the indoor mile. She recorded a season-best time of 5:23.09 which – when calculated out for running on a 300-meter track – comes out to a time of 5:26.29. That time is the sixth fastest in the MIAC this year.

Junior Isabel Fredrickson finished second in the mile behind Miller. She was one of several Cobber track athletes to post season-best times on the afternoon. Fredrickson came home in 5:27.77 which extrapolates out to a 5:31.02 which is in the Top 10 of the MIAC this year and a personal-best mark.

Freshman Sierra Ramberg came through with two collegiate-best times as she continues to develop as a college sprinter. Ramberg ran an 8.20 in the 60-meters and was sixth in the event. She clocked a 27.72 in the 200 and was seventh. Ramberg's time in the 60 is No.9 in the MIAC and she is now in the Top 20 in the 200 as well. Ramberg closed out her trio of sixth-place finishes on the day by going 15-01.50 in the long jump to lead a group of four CC athletes in the event.

The toughest competition of the meet came from the two throws events. Cobber athletes had to battle throwers from NDSU, one of the best throw crews in DI as well as top-flight athletes from ND. Junior Cayle Hovland was fifth in the shot put at 42-05.50 and ninth in the weight throw at 51-01.75. Both marks are just shy of her season-best scores which she posted last week at Concordia. Her distance in the shot would be No.2 in the league this year (she owns the top mark) and her mark in the weight throw would be third in the MIAC (she is currently third).

Junior Emily White came through with a season-best distance in the weight throw with a mark of 41-04.50 which moves her into the Top 15 in the MIAC.

Sophomore Avery Kenning had the top finish of any Cobber field athlete. She placed fourth in the triple jump with a season-best distance of 31-05.75. She was also seventh in the long jump at 14-11.50.
