Herrmann Leads Cobbers At Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. (2/08/20)--- Junior Josie Herrmann recorded the fastest time in the MIAC in the 600 meters this year and led the Concordia at the 2-day NDSU Bison Open – a meet that featured athletes from NCAA Division I, II and NAIA.

The Cobbers were the only Division III squad at the meet and finished in seventh place among 12 teams in the final team standings.

Herrmann continued her outstanding junior year by finishing fourth in the 600 meters at NDSU. Her finishing time of 1:37.77 is the best in the MIAC this season, the third fastest time in school history and a personal best.

Herrmann then backed up her fourth-place finish in the 600 meters by placing fourth in the 800 meters. She clocked a 2:18.75 which is the fifth fastest in the conference this year.

Herrmann now has Top 10 MIAC marks this season in the 600 meters (1st), 800 meters (5th), 1000 meters (2nd) and mile (9th).

The Forness sisters also had solid meets in their home state of North Dakota. Senior Miriah posted a Top 10 finish in the 800 meters while freshman had a Top 10 finish in the 300 meters.

Miriah Forness placed 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.96. That mark is a season best and the ninth fastest in the MIAC this year.

Lauren Forness was one of two Cobbers to place in the Top 10 in the 300 meters. She clocked a season-best 45.41 and placed seventh. Her time was only .36 of a second in front of teammate Nicole Lilleberg who also ran a season best time. She crossed the line in 45.77 and was eighth.

Senior distance runner Kara Andersen was just outside the Top 10. She finished 11th in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:43.18. Her mark is No.12 in the MIAC this year and less than 7-seconds off her personal best.

The field events were heavily stacked with Top DI athletes from NDSU, DII athletes from the University of Mary and also athletes from the Univ. of Manitoba.

Sophomore Allyson Kangas had the top field finish on the weekend. She placed 12th in weight throw with a mark of 49-05. That distance is a season best and No.6 in the MIAC this year. Kangas was also tied for 16th in the shot put at 39-08.50.

Cayle Hovland had the top finish in the shot put for the Cobbers. She placed 15th with a mark of 39-08.75. Hovland was also just behind Kangas in the weight throw at 46-08.25 and finished in 14th place.

Kelsey Rajewsky put up a season-best distance in the shot put and joined her two teammates in the Top 10 of the MIAC. Rajewsky was also tied for 16th place at the Bison Open and is now No.9 on the MIAC list.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will face Division III competition for the first time next weekend when they compete in the St. Benedict Invite held at St. John's on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m.
