Another 30-Point Day At The MIAC Meet

ST. PAUL, Minn. (5/11/19)---It was a near mirror image point total on Day 2 of the MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet for the Cobbers. Concordia scored 33 points on Saturday after scoring 34 on Friday and finished in sixth place in the final team standings. CC used the strength of their middle distance crew to move up two spots from last year's eighth-place finish.

Concordia had three track athletes post Top 15 all-time school marks along the way to their second straight 30-point team total. 

Junior Miriah Forness continued her success in a diverse trio of events at the MIAC Meet by placing fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase. It marked the second event of the competition where she scored team points. Fornesss was seventh in the pole vault on Friday. Not only did Forness earn All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors in the steeplechase but she also smashed her personal best time. She crossed the line in a time of 11:43.78 which is also the seventh fastest in school history.

Forness would go on to complete her pole vault-steeplechase-hurdles trifecta by collecting team points in the 400-meter hurdles. Forness raced to a 1:08.34 which placed her in the No.7 spot in the race and earned the team two points.    

The top scoring event on Saturday for the Cobbers was the 800 meters where Josie Herrmann and Isabel Fredrickson both finished in the Top 5. Herrmann was second in a time of 2:17.67 and Fredrickson also ran a sub-2:18 race as she crossed the line in 2:17.92 which was good for fourth place. Fredrickson's time was a personal best.

Herrmann also earned MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in the 1500 meters. She clocked a 4:49.72 and finished in sixth place. Her time was a career best and the 11th fastest in Cobber history.

The Cobbers also had individuals score team points in the shortest and longest track events of the day. Sophomore Zahra Banks was eighth in the 100-meter dash at 13.01. Junior Kara Andersen completed her long-distance point scoring events by placing sixth in the 5,000 meters. She ran a time of 18:08.06 which was a career best. It was also the fastest time by a Concordia athlete since 2009 and is No.7 on the school's all-time list. Andersen also scored points in the 10K on Friday.

Concordia also claimed points in two of the three throwing events on Day 2. Cayle Hovland was fifth in the discus and junior Kelsey Rajewsky was eighth in the hammer throw. Hovland posted a distance of 126-05 and Rajewsky finished with a mark of 134-07 in the hammer throw.

The Cobbers' top relay of the day came from the quartet of Fredrickson, Carly Fornshell, Banks and Herrmann who ended the conference meet by placing seventh in the 4x400-meter relay in a season-best time of 4:07.17.
