Trio Competes At MIAC Heptathlon

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/03/14)---Carly Fornshell and Jenna Stilwell captured wins in the last two events as they led the Cobbers at the MIAC heptathlon.

Fornshell won the final event, the 800 meters, and led all Concordia athletes in the heptathlon while Stilwell recorded the victory in the javelin and was the No.2 finisher for the Cobbers.

Fornshell placed ninth in the final heptathlon standings with a total of 3,721 points. Her total is a personal best and beats her previous total of 3,573 points which she posted at last year's MIAC heptathlon.

Stilwell finished in 13th place in the final standings with 3,363 points and Katie Jobe was 14th at 3,341.

Fornshell excelled at the two non-hurdle running events. She won the 800 meters in a time of 2:27.18 which gave her 729 points – her highest total of any of the seven events. The only 600-plus point total came in the 200 meters where she clocked a 27.38 to pick up 681 points. Her time in the 200 meters was the third fastest among the heptathlete competitors.

It was no surprise that Stilwell scored her highest marks in the two throwing competitions. She won the javelin with a distance of 110-10 and was seventh in the shot put at 31-03.75. Stilwell scored 549 points in the javelin which was her only 500-plus event of the meet.

Stilwell still holds the third best mark in the overall javelin for the conference with a distance of 117-04 which she posted at the Dordt Invite on Apr. 6.

Jobe, who placed seventh in last year's conference heptathlon, struggled on Day 1 and finished with 3,341 points. Like Fornshell, her best two events of the meet came in the non-hurdle track races. She scored 548 points in the 200 meters with a time of 29.09 and put up 521 points in the 800 meters with a time of 2:44.62.

UP NEXT: The rest of the Cobber team will host Bemidji State in a dual meet on Saturday, May 4 beginning around 5 p.m.
