Variety Shines At Cobber Twilight

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/23/19)---Variety was the word of the night at the annual Cobber Twilight Meet. Concordia athletes used the meet to get caught up on time lost by the winter weather and posted many different results as they finished third in a field of 12 schools.

Junior Miriah Forness led the way for diverse events competed. Forness won the 3000-meter steeplechase and had Top 15 finishes in both the pole vault and javelin. Competing in her very first steeplechase, Forness ran a 12:01.57 and won the event by almost two full seconds. Her time is the 11th fastest in school history and fifth best in the MIAC this year. Forness then headed over to the pole vault pit where she finished eighth with a height of 9-09. She then closed out her Forness-athon by placing 12th in the javelin with a distance of 100-11. That mark is also the 12th farthest in the conference this season.

Senior Super Cobb Jenna Stilwell also competed in a field event and track competition. She was fourth in the javelin at 114-11 and then put on her track spikes and came away with a season-best time of 17.52 in the 100-meter hurdles which was good for eighth place.

The Cobber throwing crew rotated through the hammer throw, discus and shot put and put up season bests and top MIAC marks as they scored big team points. Freshman Cayle Hovland used her variety to post the best shot put distance in the MIAC this year. She placed sixth, and was the top non-Division I or II athlete with a distance of 42-3.25. That mark is the furthest in the MIAC this year and 10th best in program history. Fellow freshman Jacey Schlosser also had a season best in the shot put with a mark of 40-11.75. That was good for seventh place and the second farthest toss in the MIAC this year. Kelsey Rajewsky and Allyson Kangas gave the Cobbers the Top 4 marks in the conference. Rajewsky posted a distance of 39-02.25 and Kangas was right behind at 39-01.

Hovland and Schlosser were the Top 2 Cobber finishers in the discus. Hovland placed seventh with a mark of 127-00 and Schlosser was ninth at 114-07.

Rajewsky took the top spot among CC athletes in the hammer throw. She had a distance of 129-05 which was just off her season best.

Meritt Miller and Josie Herrmann recorded the top finishes on the track ledger. Miller was the top college competitor in the 5000 meters and Herrmann placed second in the 1500 meters. Miller clocked a season-best time of 18:56.15 in the 5K which pushes her into the Top 15 in the MIAC. Herrmann also had a season-best time. She crossed the line in 4:50.91 in the 1500 meters which is the fourth fastest in the conference this year and No.11 on the school's all-time list.          

Corrie Ethen and Shelby Gelinske posted conference Top 10 marks in the triple jump. Both athletes came away with a distance of 33-08 which tied for sixth place and also tied for the 10th farthest in the MIAC this year.  

UP NEXT: Concordia will send a select group to the Drake Relays on Apr. 25-27 while the majority of the student/athletes will head across 8th street to compete in the Ron Masanz Meet at MSU Moorhead on Saturday, Apr. 27.
