FARGO, N.D. (2/02/19)---A week after breaking her sister's record in the indoor discus, freshman Cayle Hovland stepped into the Top 15 in the nation in the shot put. Hovland and sophomore middle distance runner Josie Herrmann helped the Cobbers finish fourth out of 13 teams at the Bison Open held at NDSU.

Hovland is showing no signs of rookie nerves as she continues to post better marks as the season rolls along. She came through with a distance of 43-06.00 on her very first attempt in the shot put and finished 10th in the event that was dominated by NCAA Division I throwers from NDSU.

Hovland's mark is a career best and the fifth farthest in school history. It is also the second best in the MIAC this year and No.15 in the nation – the Top 20 get invites to the NCAA National Indoor Meet.

Herrmann came through with a pair of Top 4 finishes at the meet. She was one of only three Cobbers to place in the Top 4 in a single event.

Hermann placed fourth in the 800 meters and was second in the 1000 meters at the Bison Open. It was Hermann's time in the 800 meters which pushed her into the Top 3 in the MIAC this year and the Top 15 on the Cobber all-time list. Hermann raced to a career-best 2:22.10 in the 800 meters which is the third fastest in the conference this year. It is also No.12 on the school's record list.

Hermann was runner-up in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:07.68. That mark is seventh best in the MIAC this year.

Meritt Miller had one of the Top 4 finishes for Concordia as she was close behind Herrmann in the 1000 meters and finished in third place. She came home in a career-best time of 3:11.68 which is also in the Top 15 of the MIAC this year.

Sophomore Carly Fornshell came through with the final Top 4 finish at the meet. She was fourth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:02.88. That moves her into the Top 15 of the MIAC this year.

Fornshell also posted the highest score of any Cobber in the pentathlon. She scored a career-best total of 2,786 points in the five events. That total is the third highest in the conference this year.
