Early-Season Success Continues

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (1/27/18)---Bailey Hovland and Jenna Stilwell continued their early-season success as they led Concordia at the UND Open in Grand Forks.

Last week, at the season-opening Cobber Open, Hovland posted a Cobber Top 15 all-time mark and on Saturday she duplicated that feat and was joined by Stilwell who also recorded a mark on the school's all-time Top 15 list.

Hovland bettered her mark from last weekend in the weight throw by recording a distance of 48-09.50 at the UND Open which was good for seventh place at the meet which featured NCAA Division I and II athletes.  Her final distance is No.10 on the school's all-time list. It is also the second farthest in the MIAC this season.

Hovland also finished ninth in the shot put with a distance of 35-03.75.

While Hovland was breaking into the Top 10 in the infield, Stilwell was racing her way into the Top 10 on the track. Last weekend Stillwell won the Cobber Open in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.84. She bettered that career-best mark by almost .20 of a second as she crossed the line in a time of 9.65 which was good for fourth in the event –trailing only a pair of Division II runners and a Division I athlete.

Stilwell's time in the finals is No.7 on the school's all-time list and the sixth fastest in the conference this season.

Stilwell's day was contained to just the track as she put up conference Top 15 marks in both the high jump (4-11.00) and the long jump (15-06.25).

Concordia also had 14 personal best marks at the meet.

Hannah Lundstrom opened her senior season by clocking an 8.18 in the 60-meter dash which is the fourth fastest in the conference this year and will qualify her for the MIAC Indoor Meet in February. Lundstrom also recorded a time of 26.51 in the 200 meters which is No.10 in the MIAC this year.

Freshman Josie Hermann had a career-best time in the 400 meters. She finished with a mark of 1:02.04 which is in the Top 15 of the MIAC.

The distance duo of Kara Andersen and Maria West had the other top finishes for CC at the UNDS Open. Andersen ran a 5:27.26 and placed fourth in the mile while West came home in 5:30.20 in the race and was seventh. Both of their finishing times are personal bests and both are in the Top22 of the conference.

WHAT'S NEXT: Hovland and Stilwell will hope to continue their early-season success when they, and the rest of the Cobbers, travel across the Rd River to compete in the NDSU
