MIAC Weekly Honor x 3

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/02/17)--- For the second time in three weeks Concordia senior Emma Peterson has been recognized as the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week.

Peterson earned her second weekly conference award for her outstanding performances at the Drake relays and the Janis Rider Meet at Macalester.

It is the third time since the start of the 2017 indoor season that Peterson has been named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week. She also won the award on Feb. 7 and then again two weeks ago on Apr. 18

Peterson broke her own school record in the high jump on Friday at Drake and then headed north and won the triple jump at the meet in St. Paul.

Peterson cleared 5-07.75 in the high jump at the Drake Relays which broke her school record of 5-07.25 which she set last season. Her height pushed her into a fifth-place finish in a meet that featured athletes from some of the top schools in NCAA Division I. She was the lone Division III athlete in the Top 20 of the event. Her mark is the third best in Division III this year.

Peterson then put up a pair of season best marks in the triple jump and long jump at Macalester. She won the triple jump at the Janis Rider meet with a personal best distance of 39-01.25. That mark is the best in the MIAC this year and No.7 in the nation. Her distance in the triple jump is also the second best in program history and less than a foot behind the school record of 40-0.75 set by Hilary Thompson in 2014.

Peterson then capped her weekend by qualifying for the MIAC Meet in her third event. She recorded a distance of 17-00.75 in the long which was good fourth place and is the ninth best in the Top 10 of the conference this year.

Peterson will continue with her outstanding senior season when she joins the rest of the Cobbers at the Ron Masanz Invite held at MSU Moorhead on Saturday, May 6.

Peterson's marks over the weekend will, more than likely, earn her a spot at the NCAA National Outdoor Meet which will be held on May 25-27 at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.
