Day 2 MIAC Record Encore

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/25/17)--- Credit Concordia senior Emma Peterson for knowing how to give a performance at the highest level. On Friday she broke one conference mark at the MIAC Championship Meet and on Saturday her encore was just as sweet.

A day after breaking the MIAC - and school - mark in the triple jump, Peterson gave the fans a new record in the high jump. She cleared the bar at 5-07.75 which broke the old conference record of 5-06.50 set back in 2012.

Peterson won the high jump competition to add to her title in the triple jump.

Peterson's two event wins helped Concordia to an eighth-place finish at the MIAC Indoor Meet. The Cobbers finished with 60.83 points which was less than four points shy of seventh place and only 11.67 points out of fifth place.

Not only did Peterson's winning mark in the high jump break the MIAC record but it also bettered the Cobber school record of 5-07.00 which she set on Feb. 4 at the Bison Open. Peterson continues to up the bar for both her indoor and outdoor marks.  She also holds the outdoor school record in the jump at 5-07.00.

The even more remarkable feet for Peterson is that she stands 5-04 which means she is clearing the high jump bar which sits three inches above the top of her head.

The two MIAC titles and conference records make "Mighty Mouse" a shoe-in to earn the MIAC Most Outstanding Field Athlete honor which will be announced during the week.

Mandy Mercil also stepped into the spotlight on Day 2 of the MIAC Indoor Meet. The senior used the momentum from her second-place finish in the weight throw on Friday to win the shot put on Saturday. Mercil posted a distance of 41-10.75 in the finals of the event and won the competition by over two feet.

The win was the first event victory at a conference meet for the senior. Her winning distance is also a lifetime best and the seventh farthest in program history.

Concordia had a pair of freshmen earn MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors on Day 2 of the meet. Isabelle Andriessen placed fifth in the 600 meters and Mollie Francis finished sixth in the long jump.

Andriessen posted a season-best time of 1:38.72 in the 600 meters and was a fraction of a second out of second place. Her time is also the seventh fastest in school history.

Francis also used a season-best mark to earn her honorable mention award. She flew to a distance of 17-00.75 in the long jump to record her sixth-place finish. Her mark is also a lifetime best distance.

Senior Maria West had the only other Top 10 finish in a track event for the Cobbers. She continues to post outstanding times in her final season and recorded a seventh-place finish in the 1,000 meters. She crossed the finish line in a time of 3:05.79 which is a lifetime best mark and the 11th fastest in program history.

Freshman Tierza Engen placed in a tie for seventh place to record the only other Top 10 finish in a field event for CC on Day 2. She cleared a height of 4-11.50 to earn a spot in the six-way tie for seventh.
