A 3rd-Place Finish & 2 Great Story Lines

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (3/05/16)—It's a photo finish as to which Concordia story line was bigger on Day 2 at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet at Carleton. The dead heat is between sophomore Hannah Lundstrom who won the 200 meters to go along with her title in the 400 meters and a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash and senior Olivia Johnson who posted a runner-up finish in the shot put to earn her second MIAC All-Conference honor in 48 hours in two different sports.

Lundstrom's speed and Johnson's all-around athletic ability helped Concordia post their highest finish at an MIAC Indoor Championship Meet since 2006 when they finished tied for second.

The Cobbers finished with 92.9 team points which is the most by a CC team at the indoor meet since 2006 as well.

Lundstrom staked her claim to one of the favorites for MIAC Track Athlete of the Meet by winning the 200 meters in a time of 25.96 which won the event by 0.38 of a second. Lundstrom's win in the 200 meters capped her individual race prowess at the meet where she personally scored 26 of the team's 92.9 points.

Johnson put her name in the record books by coming up with a distance of 42-06.25 in the shot put and coming away with a second-place finish. She was less than a foot away from the winning mark. Johnson was fourth in the event last year with a distance of 43-05.75.

It was only the second indoor meet of the season for Johnson who was a member of the Cobber women's basketball team which advanced to the semifinals of the MIAC playoffs. Johnson had a standout season and was named to the MIAC All-Conference Team on Thursday.

Johnson then claimed All-MIAC honors in track & field 48 hours later to become one of the only athletes in the history of the MIAC to earn All-Conference honors in the same season in two different sports.

Emma Peterson ended her multiple All-MIAC meet by placing third in the triple jump. She won the high jump on Friday and came into the conference meet seeded 12th in the triple jump. Peterson connected on a jump of 34-09.75 in the prelims to qualify for finals. She then upped that mark in her first attempt in the finals when she recorded a distance of 35-08.00. That was good for third place in the event . It was also a career best for and No.8 on the school's all-time list.

Freshman Jenna Stilwell earned her second MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honor of the meet by placing fifth in the triple jump. She was also fifth in the high jump on Friday. Stilwell qualified for finals with a mark of 34-09.50 and then earned her honorable mention award with a distance of 34-10.50 on her first attempt in the finals.

Mandy Mercil had a solid meet in both throwing events. On Friday she qualified for the finals in the weight throw and on Saturday she placed third in the shot put. Her third-place finish gives her the first All-MIAC honor of her track and field career. Mercil's all-conference distance of 41-01.75 is a season best by 11 inches and also the ninth farthest in program history.

Senior Ashley Thompson came away with her first-ever All-MIAC honor as she placed sixth in the shot put and earn All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Thompson earned her award with a throw of 40-08.75 on her second attempt of the competition.

Mikayla Forness, Maria West and Anna Skow-Anderson had top 15 finishes on Saturday, Forness came home in 1:39.31 and placed ninth in the 600 meters and West was 12th in the 1000 meters at 3:09.15. Both times were season bests by over two seconds for both athletes. Skow Anderson completed her indoor career by finishing seventh in the shot put.
