Another All-American Honor & Another School Record

Another All-American Honor & Another School Record

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/23/14)—Concordia junior Cherae Reeves added another All-American honor and pushed the school record in the shot put even farther as she finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Championship Meet.

Reeves' third-place finish in the shot put at nationals gives her a fourth straight All-American award in the event in the past two seasons. She finished fourth at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Meet and since then has been third in the shot put at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Meet and the2014 NCAA Indoor Meet.

Concordia has now had at least one athlete earn All-American honors in 19 of the past 21 outdoor seasons. Reeves becomes the seventh athlete to earn multiple All-American honors at the national outdoor meet.

Reeves bettered her own school record by almost a full foot when she unleashed a throw of 48-10.00 in her final attempt in the preliminaries of the national outdoor meet. Her distance was the farthest of any competitor in the preliminary heats and was still the best heading into the sixth, and final, round of throws. Unfortunately a pair of competitors bettered Reeves' mark and she wound up finishing third.

It was the second time this season that Reeves has bested the school record which she set last season. Reeves went 47-10.50 at the Ron Masanz Invite at MSU Moorhead on May 3 and then became the first Cobber athlete to ever surpass the 48-foot mark with her toss at Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Meet.

Olivia Johnson also competed in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Meet. Johnson, who narrowly missed qualifying for the finals at last year's national meet, earned a spot in the finals this year and finished ninth. Her best distance was 44-11.00 which ties her season best. She posted the same distance in her final throw to get into the national meet at the UW-La Cross NCAA Qualfier Meet last week.
