How Far Will Reeves And Thompson Go At MIAC?

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/06/14)—The question Concordia women's track and field fans have before the MIAC Championship Meet is, "how far will Cherae Reeves and Hilary Thompson go?" The two standout field athletes will lead the Cobbers into the conference meet on Mar. 7-8 at St. John's University.

Reeves and Thompson have once again established themselves as two of the premiere field athletes in the conference. Reeves owns the top mark in the shot put while Thompson is in the top 2 in both the triple jump and long jump. Both athletes are also in the top 25 of the nation. Reeves is ranked third in Division III with a season-best mark of 46-07.25 which she unleashed at the Bison Open on Feb. 15. Thompson is 22nd in the nation in the triple jump. Her best mark of the year in the event is 37-00.25 which she also produced at the Bison Open.

The Cobbers are hoping that Reeves and Thompson will score big team points in the three events as they look to improve on their seventh-place finish at last year's conference meet.

Concordia's track group is led by athletes at the opposite ends of their collegiate careers. Freshman Ruth Peterson is the future in the sprint events while Morgan Christian represents the here-and-now in the middle distance. Peterson is ranked in the top 25 of the MIAC in both the 60-meter dash and 200 meters. She is 15th in the 60 meters with a time of 8.14 while her mark of 27.43 in the 200 meters gives her the 24th fastest time. As well as she has performed in the sprint events, Peterson's best scoring events could come in field competition where she has top 15 marks in both the long jump and triple jump.

Christian is in the top 15 in the conference in both the 600 and 800 meters. She is seventh in the 600 meters at 1:40.01 and 12th at 800 meters at 2:22.55.

Hilary Birchem, Karley Petersen, Jessica Marken and Anna Skow-Anderson are the other top field athletes who have a chance at scoring points. Birchem is 12th in the shot put while Petersen and marken are ranked 16th in the pole vault. Skow-Anderson will hop to carry on the CC tradition of quality mutlit-event athletes. She is ranked sixth in the MIAC heading into the conference pentathlon.
