Reeves And Thompson Turn Back The Clock

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/01/14)— The calendar says 2014 but for the Concordia field tandem of Cherae Reeves and Hilary Thompson it might as well be 2013. The duo posted top 3 finishes at the Cobber Duals and helped the team to a third-place at the meet.

The opening meet of the 2014 indoor season saw Concordia post an 8-2 record in the meet which featured 11 teams from the area and hundreds of the top athletes in the region.

Reeves, who earned All-American honors last year and holds the school record in the shot put, won the event at the duals meet with a mark of 46-00.75. That distance was over a foot farther than the next competitor who was a Division I athlete. Her winning mark is farther than she threw in all of last season except for the NCAA national meet. The distance is also the best in the MIAC this season and the third best in all of Division III.

Thompson put up a second-place finish in the triple jump and a third-place showing in the long jump. Thompson, who was second in the triple jump at the MIAC Indoor Meet last year with a mark of 36-10.50, posted a distance of 36-04.25 in the very first meet of 2014. Her mark is tops in the conference this season and in the top 20 of the nation. Thompson's jump of 17-01.25 in the long jump is just .25 inches behind her 2013 season best.

The top track performances were turned in by Ruth Peterson, Callie Christianson and Grace Bateman. Peterson turned in a time of 8.19 in the 60-meter dash and placed ninth in the event. Her finishing time is faster than any Cobber athlete posted in 2013 and is currently in the top 10 of the MIAC.

Christianson was sixth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:42.77. Her time is almost 2-seconds faster than her season best of 2013 and is the third fastest in the conference in 2014.

Bateman posted the first top 10 finish of her collegiate career in the 400 meters where she ran a 65.55. Bateman's time puts her in the top 15 of the conference and would have been the second fastest for CC in all of 2013.

Concordia will continue the 2014 season when they travel down Main Avenue and up Broadway to compete in the NDSU Invite on Friday, Feb. 7.
