Jensen Earns Academic All-District Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/30/13)—Kaari Jensen added another honor to her portfolio as she was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team. Jensen is now eligible to earn her second straight Academic All-American award.

In addition to her back-to-back All-American finishes in the heptathlon, Jensen graduated from Concordia with a 3.82 grade point average while majoring in Communications Studies and Public Relations.

The Capital One Academic All-District team is part of the Capital One Academic All-America program, as selected by CoSIDA. Top student-athletes from Division III programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are eligible for inclusion on the District 6 team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America program, as CoSIDA has moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I), doubling the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members.

Jensen finished fifth in the heptathlon at this year's NCAA Division III Outdoor Meet. That came on the heels of being named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Central Region Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight season. Jensen won the MIAC heptathlon for the second straight season and also won the conference javelin event. She finished in the top 6 in five different events at the MIAC Meet and scored 34.0 team points to help the Cobbers finish second as a team.
