Jensen Named MIAC Field Athlete Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/07/13)—For the second straight week, and the fourth time in her career, Cobber senior Kaari Jensen has been named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week. Jensen earned the award after winning the MIAC heptathlon for the second straight season.

Jensen and teammate Cherae Reeves have now joined forces to win the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week honor for four of the five weeks this season. Reeves won the award in two of the first three weeks of the season.

Jensen claimed the title of the conference's "best all around athlete" by scoring 4,754 points at last weekend's MIAC heptathlon. Her point total is the second highest of the season for Jensen who currently owns the second best heptathlon score in all of Division III this year.

Jensen capped her senior season conference multi event by scoring at least 700 points in three events. Her best event of the meet was the very first one where she posted 827 points after running a 15.11 in the 100-meter hurdles. It is the second fastest time she has ever run in the event in the heptathlon.

Jensen's other 700-plus events were the 200-meter dash and the 800 meters. She ran a 26.36 in the 200-meter dash to score 766 points and had a 2:27.17 in the 800 meters for a point total of 729. One of her best events of the meet was the shot put where she came away with a personal best distance of 33-08.75.

Jensen will now turn her attention towards helping Concordia post another top 3 finish at the MIAC Championship Meet. Jensen, and the rest of the Cobbers, will finish off the conference meet on Friday and Saturday May 10-11 at St. Thomas University.
