The Best Athlete In The MIAC

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (5/03/13)—If track and field multi-event competitions crown the best athlete of the meet, then go ahead and give the tiara for Best Athlete in the MIAC to Cobber senior Kaari Jensen - again. Jensen scored 4,754 points in the MIAC heptathlon on her way to winning her third straight conference multi-event title.

Jensen, who won the indoor pentathlon in February and was the defending champion in the heptathlon, won this year's event by over 200 points. Her point total is the second highest of the season for Jensen who currently owns the second highest heptathlon score in all of Division III.

Concordia freshman Anna Skow-Anderson, the heir apparent to the traditionally strong Cobber multi-event throne finished in sixth place at the meet. Skow-Anderson came away with a personal best score of 3,799 points. Her total is only 163 points behind Jensen's freshman year score in the conference heptathlon when she placed fifth.

Jensen capped her senior season conference multi event by scoring at least 700 points in three events. Her best event of the meet was the very first one where she posted 827 points after running a 15.11 in the 100-meter hurdles. It is the second fastest time she has ever run in the event in the heptathlon.

Jensen's other 700-plus events were the 200-meter dash and the 800 meters. She ran a 26.36 in the 200-meter dash to score 766 points and had a 2:27.17 in the 800 meters for a point total of 729. One of her best events of the meet was the shot put where she came away with a personal best distance of 33-08.75.

Jensen will now turn her attention towards helping Concordia post another top 3 finish at the MIAC Championship Meet. Jensen, and the rest of the Cobbers, will finish off the conference meet on Friday and Saturday May 10-11 at St. Thomas University.
