Another Week, Another MIAC Award For Reeves

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/22/13)—Cobber sophomore Cherae Reeves (West Fargo, N.D.) is in danger of having the MIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week award named the Reeves Award. For the second time in the past three weeks Reeves was named the MIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after her record-breaking performance at the Carleton Relays on Saturday.

Reeves won the award after breaking the Concordia school record in the shot put at the Carleton Relays. Reeves finished with a distance of 47-10.00 which is the top toss in the nation this year and which broke the old school record of 46-08.75 set by US Olympian Kris Kuehl in 1992. Her mark of 47-10.00 is over seven inches farther than any other competitor in NCAA Division III.

Reeves previous season best came at the Augustana Invite when she posted a distance of 46-02.50. She earned her first MIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor after that performance and has now won the award three times in the course of the 2013 indoor and outdoor track seasons.

Reeves is coming off a breakout indoor season where she finished fourth at the NCAA Indoor Meet which enabled her to earn All-American honors. Her finishing distance at the NCAA Meet of 46-09.00 broke the school's 21-year-old record set by US Olympian Kris Kuehl back in 1992.

Reeves and the rest of the Cobbers will compete at the Al Cassel Relays held at Jamestown College on Apr. 27.
