Reeves Earns MIAC Field Athlete Of The Week Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/10/13)—Concordia sophomore Cherae Reeves (West Fargo, N.D.) started the outdoor season right where she left off after her All-American indoor campaign – by winning awards.

Reeves was named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week for her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put at the first outdoor meet of the season at the Vance Butler Invite at Augustana (S.D.) last weekend. Reeves finished second in the shot put event which featured athletes from several NCAA Division II and top NAIA schools.

Reeves' NCAA provisional qualifying mark was 46-02.50 which is also the third farthest in the history of the program. Her distance is tops in the MIAC this season by over two feet. She is currently ranked fifth in all of NCAA Division III.

Reeves is coming off a breakout indoor season where she finished fourth at the NCAA Indoor Meet which enabled her to earn All-American honors. Her finishing distance at the NCAA Meet of 46-09.00 broke the school's 21-year-old record set by US Olympian Kris Kuehl back in 1992.

Reeves also earned MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 26.

Concordia will hope to continue the outdoor season at the Bison Open on Saturday, Apr. 13
